Barania Góra – the loop trail through the Czarna and Biała Wisełka Valleys is one of the most scenic routes in the Silesian Beskids!
It’s one of those peaks you simply have to visit when in Wisła. And the best way to do it is by completing the loop – climbing via the Czarna Wisełka Valley and descending via the Biała Wisełka Valley. The route is long but stunning – perfect for a full-day hike with a break at the mountain shelter. We’ve done it ourselves and have a few tips to share – where to start, what to watch out for, and what to look out for along the way.
Barania Góra – one of the highest peaks in the Silesian Beskids
Barania Góra has something special about it. Although it’s not the highest in the range (Skrzyczne takes first place), two streams – Czarna and Biała Wisełka – originate from its slopes. They merge in Lake Czerniańskie and give birth to the Vistula, the longest river in Poland.
The peak rises to 1,220 m above sea level and is one of the most recognizable in the region. It’s a popular hiking destination thanks to both its natural beauty and symbolic significance. At the top, there’s a yellow observation tower offering panoramic views of the surrounding ranges – and on clear days, even the Tatra Mountains.
Why choose the loop trail?
Because you don’t return the same way! You get to experience varied landscapes – valleys, forests, streams, and steeper climbs. Both the Czarna and Biała Wisełka Valleys have their own unique charm.
A practical advantage: you start and finish in the same spot, so there’s no need to arrange transport.
The full loop is about 20 km and takes 5–7 hours, depending on pace and breaks. For us, it’s one of those trails we’re happy to repeat.
Czarna Wisełka Valley – a good starting point
We started from the parking lot in the Czarna Wisełka Valley, just a few minutes’ drive or bus ride from Hotel Vestina. It’s a quiet spot, surrounded by forest, with the gentle sound of a stream in the background. The trail begins on a wide, paved road – perfect for warming up. The views are magical – the stream, towering trees, and forest serenity. After about an hour’s walk, you reach the mountain shelter.
PTTK Shelter Przysłop under Barania Góra
The Przysłop Shelter is the classic break point. You can get a warm meal, a cup of tea, and rest before the climb. The building has its own history, and the area has benches and tables for a quick picnic. If you’re hiking with kids or beginners, it’s worth planning a longer stop here.
There’s also a souvenir shop with toys and practical gear, and a small forest museum (Izba Leśna) run by the local forestry office – free entry and especially interesting for kids.
Climbing Barania Góra
The path up from the shelter is rocky and can be slippery – especially after rain or during spring snowmelt. Water often runs right down the trail, so proper hiking shoes are essential. The views along the way are rewarding, but the biggest payoff is at the summit.
The yellow viewing tower offers sweeping views of the Silesian and Żywiec Beskids, and sometimes even the Tatra Mountains.
Biała Wisełka Valley – scenic descent
From the summit, head toward Magurka Wiślańska and turn left into the Biała Wisełka Valley. This part is unforgettable – forests, sunlight filtering through the trees, and the soothing sound of cascading water.
On the way, you’ll pass the Rodło Cascades – a series of natural steps and waterfalls, one of the region’s prettiest natural attractions.
Biała Wisełka parking and Lake Czerniańskie
The trail ends at the main road. From here, it’s about 3 km on asphalt to get back to the Czarna Wisełka parking lot.
On the way, stop at Lake Czerniańskie – a peaceful spot to rest and enjoy the view. You can also see the Presidential Castle in Wisła from here – one last scenic moment before ending your hike.
Summary
The loop through the Czarna and Biała Wisełka Valleys up Barania Góra is perfect for those who enjoy long, varied hikes. You’ll find quiet forest trails, wide-open views, waterfalls, a cozy shelter, and a tower with breathtaking panoramas. A route worth doing – even more than once.
